Alekseev Mikhail Nikolayevich, Ph.D. in geology, principal researcher, chairman
of the working group "Shelf" of the geological section of the Scientific Counsel for the studies of the World Ocean,
Russian Academy of Sciences.
After graduating Moscow Petroleum Institute in
1950 he is working in the Geological Institute.
He has carried out geological researches in the USSR and in many other countries.
Main subject of studies are: Cenozoic geology (stratigraphy, tectonics, paleogeography), Quaternary geology.
Alekseev M.N. worked as an expert in the United Nations' Economy and Social Commission for Asian
and Far East and in Intergovernmental Committee for Co-ordination of joint Prospecting for Mineral Resources
in Asian offshore - Areas (CCOP).
He was a Vic President of INQUA, chairman of the INQUA commission on Stratigraphy.
Now he is the Vice Chairman of the Commission for Quaternary Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Last years the basic attention has been concentrated on preparation of large collective generalizing works:
the Atlas of paleogeographic maps "Shelves of Eurasia in Mesozoic and Cenozoic" and "Geology and mineral
resources of the Russian shelves ".
He published about 200 scientific monographs and articles.
